Relationship Development Intervention
™
Our primary tool used for the
treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders is the Relationship
Development Intervention ™(RDI) program. This program was
developed by Dr. Gutstein and Dr. Sheely at the Connection
Center in Houston, TX. This approach is based on typical
development and emphasizes that the parents are the primary
agents of change. We, as RDI consultants, coach the
parents on how to implement a remediation program. RDI
treats the core deficits of the Austism Spectrum Disorders.
The core deficits are those that are unique to all those
with Autism Spectrum Disorders. RDI works to lessen the
severity of these universal deficits.
Therapeutic Listening
This technique uses modulated music
over headphones in order to improve sensory processing. This
technique has been shown to have positive impacts with
children on the Autism Spectrum.
ADOS / ADIR
Assistance with diagnosis is available
through the administration of the ADOS and the ADIR. These
are the most up-to-date tools in diagnosing Autism Spectrum
Disorders.
Occupational Therapy
A multifaceted approach is used to
diagnose and treat sensory processing disorders. Evaluation
and treatment could also include specific focus on your
child's unique sensory processing problems that are
affecting your child's quality of life. This may include
clinically based treatments as well as customized sensory
diet for the home. Specific treatments are also used to
reduce extreme sensory defensiveness as well as coordination
and or motor delays.
